Purpose of Visa

Your Azerbaijan visa purpose is the purpose you declared on arrival: while you are in the country you must keep to it, and it must match the type of visa you were issued. Not keeping to your declared purpose is an administrative offence. The rules below are the guidance published by the State Migration Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The rule on declared purpose

The rights and obligations of foreigners and stateless persons on the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan are defined by the Migration Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan. According to Article 76.3 of the Migration Code, foreigners and stateless persons on the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan must adhere to the declared purposes of arrival in the country.

Azerbaijan visa purpose and visa types

It should be noted that the declared purpose of the arrival of foreigners arriving in Azerbaijan on the basis of visa must correspond to the types of entry visas issued to them. Entry visas are issued to foreigners coming to the country for the following purposes:

  • official
  • business
  • science
  • education
  • employment
  • tourism
  • culture
  • sports
  • humanitarian
  • medical
  • private visit

An eVisa does not give the right to paid work. Working in Azerbaijan requires a labour visa or a work permit, as set out in the migration rules.

If the rule is broken

Violation of these rules entails administrative liability in accordance with Article 575.1.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Applying for temporary residence

Taking into account the above, foreigners intending to obtain a permit for temporary residence on the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan are recommended to comply with these rules when applying to the State Migration Service.
