Australian citizens apply for Azerbaijan’s visa over the internet, wherever they are in the country, and never have to deal with the embassy in Canberra. The Azerbaijan eVisa for Australian citizens is requested on one form for up to ten travellers, and every approved visa is delivered by email through a secure link.

Why an Australian passport needs a visa for Azerbaijan
Australia is not among the eight countries whose citizens can currently visit Azerbaijan without a visa, so Australians need one for every trip. Because Australia is on the eVisa list, though, the Azerbaijan eVisa for Australian citizens is handled entirely online: there is no form to post and no passport to hand over. The Azerbaijan eVisa page describes the electronic visa itself, and the eligible countries list covers the other nationalities that can use it. The Australian Government’s Smartraveller advice for Azerbaijan adds safety and entry information written for Australians.
Azerbaijan as one stop on a longer trip
If Azerbaijan is one leg of a longer journey, perhaps combined with Georgia or Türkiye, enter as the arrival date the day you will cross into Azerbaijan, not the day your flight leaves Australia. The 30 days of stay are counted inside Azerbaijan, so the weeks you spend elsewhere before you arrive take nothing away from them. The ‘Accommodation / place of stay’ field holds up to 500 characters, enough to name a hotel in Baku and the next one in Sheki or Gabala if you plan to move around.
New Zealand and British passports in the same party
Nationality is entered separately for each traveller, and New Zealand and the United Kingdom are both on the eVisa list, so a group that mixes Australian, New Zealand and British passports can share one application. Someone who holds two of these passports should list the one they plan to travel on, since the visa is recorded against that passport number.
Passport, scan and an Australian mobile number
Every passport on the application needs at least 180 days of validity left on the day you arrive in Azerbaijan, and a sharp scan of its photo page is uploaded for each traveller. Alongside the arrival date and the place of stay, the form asks for an email address you check and a phone number in international format: an Australian mobile beginning 04 becomes +61 4 followed by the remaining eight digits. Before you begin the Azerbaijan eVisa for Australian citizens, what you need to apply shows which scan files are accepted.
Ninety days of validity, a stay of up to thirty
Your eVisa is valid for 90 days and lets you stay in Azerbaijan for up to 30 days. Staying longer than 15 days means you must also be registered at the address where you live during the visit; the migration rules page explains how. For what happens as the 30 days come to an end, read duration of stay.
Two speeds and two prices for the Azerbaijan eVisa for Australian citizens
One processing speed is chosen for the whole application. Standard takes up to 3 working days and can be picked when you arrive at least 4 days after applying; urgent takes up to 3 hours and allows an arrival on the same day. The fee is set per traveller at USD 59 for standard or USD 130 for urgent, so eight friends travelling together on standard pay USD 472. These are US dollars, not Australian dollars, and they are only a guide: the charge itself is made in Azerbaijani manat, AZN 100.30 or AZN 221.00 per person. The fee page explains which part is refundable.
The Canberra embassy and the Perth honorary consulate
No embassy visit is part of the eVisa process. The Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Canberra, at 5 Mialli Place in O’Malley, is also accredited to New Zealand and Fiji, and Azerbaijan has an honorary consulate in Perth. Fijian passport holders are not on the eVisa list and would need to contact the embassy instead. Phone numbers and email addresses for the embassy and the consulate are listed under Australia on our Azerbaijan embassies page.
What follows your payment
When the payment is through, our team checks each traveller’s entries against the passport scans and asks you to correct anything that does not match before the application is submitted to the official portal. Granting the visa is up to the Azerbaijani authorities, and if they do, you get an email with a secure link to each traveller’s eVisa; print them and travel with each one next to its passport. To get a new status link at any time, enter your reference and email address on check your application status. Once your flights are booked, start your application for the Azerbaijan eVisa for Australian citizens, and look in the FAQ for anything not covered here.
