Azerbaijan eVisa for Spanish citizens

Spaniards apply for Azerbaijan’s visa online rather than at the embassy in Madrid. One form for the Azerbaijan eVisa for Spanish citizens takes up to ten travellers, and each approved eVisa is sent to your inbox as a secure link.

Spain and the eVisa list

Azerbaijan currently admits citizens of eight countries without a visa, and Spain is not one of them, so a Spanish passport always needs a visa. Spain is on the eVisa list, though, which means the whole process can be done from home. The Azerbaijan eVisa page describes how the electronic visa works, and the eligible countries list shows the other nationalities that can use it.

Why the DNI is not enough

Inside the Schengen area a Spanish identity card is often all you carry, but not for this trip. Spain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs states in its travel recommendations for Azerbaijan that a valid passport is required and the DNI is not accepted. The eVisa is issued for a passport too: the form takes its number, its expiry date and a scan of the photo page. Make sure that passport will still be valid at least 180 days after the day you arrive, and renew it first if it will not.

Two surnames on the form

Spanish passports print both surnames under Apellidos. When you fill in the Azerbaijan eVisa for Spanish citizens, put both of them in the surname field, in the order the passport shows them, and enter a compound first name such as María José or José Luis in full in the given names field. Dropping the second surname, or moving it into the given names, would no longer match the passport scan, and we would ask you to correct it before anything is submitted.

Spanish and Latin American passports

If you also hold the nationality of a Latin American country, apply with the passport you will travel on, because the visa is recorded against that passport number. Nationality is chosen separately for each traveller. Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru are on the eVisa list as well, but Venezuela and Uruguay are not, so a traveller with one of those second passports should apply as a Spanish citizen.

Contact details and a +34 number

Besides the passport scan for every traveller, the Azerbaijan eVisa for Spanish citizens asks for your arrival date, the hotel or address where you will stay in Azerbaijan, an email address you check and a phone number in international format. Spanish numbers have no leading zero to drop, so a mobile is simply written as +34 followed by all nine digits. The page what you need to apply lists the scan files that are accepted.

The 30-day limit and registration

The eVisa is valid for 90 days and allows a stay of up to 30 days in Azerbaijan. If you stay longer than 15 days, you also need to be registered at the address where you are living, which our migration rules page explains; duration of stay covers the choices you have when the 30 days are nearly used up.

Processing time and fee for the Azerbaijan eVisa for Spanish citizens

The application runs at one speed for all of its travellers. Standard is completed within 3 working days and is available when you arrive at least 4 days after applying; urgent is completed within 3 hours and also works for a same-day arrival. Each traveller pays USD 59 on standard or USD 130 on urgent, so a family of four pays USD 236 on standard or USD 520 on urgent. The amount is charged in Azerbaijani manat, AZN 100.30 or AZN 221.00 per person, with the dollar prices as a guide, and the fee page explains which part can be refunded.

The Madrid embassy, Andorra and UN Tourism

You will not need the embassy for the eVisa. The Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Madrid, at Ronda de la Avutarda 38, also serves as Azerbaijan’s Permanent Representation to the World Tourism Organization, whose headquarters are in the city, and it is accredited to Andorra. Andorran citizens are on the eVisa list as well and can use the same form. The embassy’s phone numbers and email address appear under Spain on our Azerbaijan embassies page.

Checks, submission and your eVisa

As soon as you have paid, our team works through the application and contacts you if a surname, a scan or a date needs fixing; only a complete and consistent application is submitted to the official portal. The visa decision rests with the Azerbaijani authorities. Once it is granted, an email gives you a secure link to each traveller’s eVisa, which should be printed and carried with the matching passport. Enter your reference and email address on check your application status whenever you want a new status link.
