Why Austrians need a visa

Austria is not covered by any of Azerbaijan’s eight temporary visa-free arrangements, so Austrian passport holders need a visa each time they travel. It does appear on the eVisa list, which means the visa is requested online and no appointment is involved. The Azerbaijan eVisa overview explains how the electronic visa works, and the eligible countries list shows which other nationalities can use it.

Travelling with partners of another nationality

Nationality is recorded for each traveller, not for the application as a whole. An Austrian travelling with a German partner or a Slovak colleague can therefore put everyone on one application for the Azerbaijan eVisa for Austrian citizens, as long as each person’s nationality is on the eligible countries list. Every traveller is entered with the details of their own passport, pays the same price per person and receives an eVisa in their own name.

Passport validity and the data-page scan

Before starting, check every passport: each must still be valid 180 days after your arrival in Azerbaijan. You will upload a sharp scan of each data page and give the arrival date, your accommodation and an email address you read; what you need to apply covers file types and scan quality.

Staying beyond 30 days

An issued eVisa is valid for 90 days, and a stay under it may last up to 30 days. If you are in Azerbaijan for more than 15 days you must also be registered at your place of stay, as the migration rules explain. Anyone who wants to stay longer than the 30 days has to have the stay extended, or apply for a temporary residence permit, before the period runs out; that is handled by the State Migration Service in Baku, as set out on duration of stay. Otherwise you must leave by the last day of your permitted stay.

Turnaround and price for the Azerbaijan eVisa for Austrian citizens

You choose between two speeds when you apply. Standard is completed within 3 working days, and the form then needs your arrival to be at least 4 days away; urgent is completed within 3 hours, and you may arrive the same day. Each traveller is charged USD 59 for standard or USD 130 for urgent, which makes USD 354 for a group of six on standard. The charge is taken in Azerbaijani manat (AZN), with dollars shown only as a guide, and the refundable parts are listed on the fee page.

Azerbaijan’s representation in Vienna

None of this involves the embassy. The Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Vienna, at Hügelgasse 2 in the 13th district, is also Azerbaijan’s permanent representation to the OSCE and the United Nations organisations based in Vienna, and it is accredited to Slovenia and Slovakia as well. It handles other visa categories and consular matters and publishes its information at vienna.mfa.gov.az. Its contact details, and those of two honorary consulates in Austria, are listed under Austria on our Azerbaijan embassies page.
