Bulgaria is on Azerbaijan’s eVisa list, so a trip from Sofia, Plovdiv or Varna to Baku needs only an online application. The Azerbaijan eVisa for Bulgarian citizens is requested in one sitting, and the issued visa is downloaded from a secure link we email to you.

Bulgaria and Azerbaijan’s visa requirement
Bulgarian citizens do need a visa: Bulgaria is not one of the eight countries that Azerbaijan currently admits under a temporary visa-free arrangement. Because Bulgaria is on the eVisa list, that visa is an electronic one, requested online and shown at the border together with your passport. Anyone in your group who holds another passport should look up their own nationality on the eligible countries list, and the Azerbaijan eVisa overview describes the electronic visa in general.
What to gather for each traveller
For every traveller on an application for the Azerbaijan eVisa for Bulgarian citizens you need a passport that will still be valid for at least 180 days when you arrive in Azerbaijan, and a clear scan of its data page. The trip itself needs your arrival date and the address you will stay at. The application also needs one email address that you check, because every message about it, including any request for more information, goes there. What you need to apply lists the scan formats we accept.
Validity, stay and registration
The Azerbaijan eVisa for Bulgarian citizens is valid for 90 days and allows a stay of up to 30 days within that time. If you spend more than 15 days in Azerbaijan you must also be registered at your address there; the migration rules explain the registration, and duration of stay covers what applies when your 30 days end.
Two processing speeds
Standard processing takes 3 working days and urgent processing takes 3 hours. With standard, the arrival date on the form must be at least 4 days after the day you apply; urgent accepts an arrival on the day of application. Since urgent costs more than twice as much, it is worth choosing only when your dates leave no room.
The price of the Azerbaijan eVisa for Bulgarian citizens
Every traveller pays the same price: USD 59 for standard processing or USD 130 for urgent. Two colleagues travelling together on urgent processing pay USD 260, and the review page shows the total before payment. The amount actually charged is in Azerbaijani manat (AZN), AZN 100.30 per traveller on standard and AZN 221.00 on urgent, and the fee page breaks each price into its refundable and non-refundable parts.
If your plans change: refunds
Whether money comes back depends on when plans change. Cancelling before the application has been submitted, and within 24 hours of paying, brings a full refund. Once it has been submitted there is no refund, and none once an eVisa has been issued, even if you do not travel. If the Azerbaijani authorities refuse a traveller, the refundable part of that traveller’s price is returned: USD 29 on standard processing, USD 60 on urgent. Refunds are calculated and paid back in AZN, and the refund policy sets out the exact conditions and how to ask.
When we ask for more information
Sometimes a scan is unreadable or a detail needs confirming. The application status then changes to additional information required and we email you a secure link; open it, send what is asked for, and the application continues from there. This can happen during our review and also while the application is being processed, so keep an eye on your inbox until the result arrives, especially with urgent processing.
The embassy in Sofia and when you would need it
An eVisa never involves the embassy. The Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Sofia, at Charles Darwin str. 6, Sofia 1113, publishes its own information at sofia.mfa.gov.az and handles other visa categories, for instance if you plan to stay beyond 30 days, as well as consular matters. Its phone number and email address are listed under Bulgaria on our Azerbaijan embassies page.
From payment to download
After payment we review the application before passing it to the official portal. You are emailed at each stage, and entering your application reference and email address on check your application status sends you a secure link to the current status at any time. When the Azerbaijani authorities have decided, each traveller’s eVisa can be downloaded through a secure link; print it and travel with the passport it was issued for. Start your application for the Azerbaijan eVisa for Bulgarian citizens when your dates are fixed, and see the FAQ for anything else.
