Is a visa required for Germans?

It is. Azerbaijan currently runs temporary visa-free arrangements with eight countries, and Germany is not among them, so a trip on a German passport needs a visa arranged in advance. Germany does appear on the eVisa list, which is why the electronic route is open to you.

Which passport counts

Eligibility follows the passport, not your address: a German citizen living in Munich, Madrid or Dubai applies in exactly the same way. If you hold German citizenship alongside another nationality, decide which passport you will carry on the trip and use that one for the application. The eVisa is tied to the passport it was issued for, and travelling on the other one invalidates it. Anyone living in Germany on a different passport should look up their own nationality on the eligible countries list.

Checking your German passport

Open the passport before you start. It must be valid for at least 180 days — six months — counted from the day you enter Azerbaijan, and it needs at least one blank page left free for the border officer. For the form itself you will need a clear scan of the data page, your arrival date, your accommodation and an email address you read. What you need to apply lists the accepted scan formats and the other document rules.

Children and the Azerbaijan eVisa for German citizens

Every traveller needs a visa of their own, children and infants included. On the form each child is added as a separate traveller with their own passport details and scan, and each receives their own eVisa. A child recorded in a parent’s passport still has to be entered separately. One application holds up to ten travellers, so a family usually applies together and pays once for everyone.

90 days of validity, 30 days in the country

The visa stays valid for 90 days, and within that window it lets you spend up to 30 days in Azerbaijan, so plan the trip around the 30, not the 90. Stays of more than 15 days also need registration at your place of stay — the migration rules explain who arranges it — and duration of stay covers what applies when your permitted period ends.

Standard or urgent

When applying for the Azerbaijan eVisa for German citizens you pick a speed: standard, which takes 3 working days, or urgent, which takes 3 hours. The form and our checks are identical either way.

Price per person

We charge USD 59 per person for standard processing and USD 130 per person for urgent. A couple travelling on standard processing therefore pays USD 118, and the exact total appears on the review page before payment. Charges are made in Azerbaijani manat (AZN), with dollars shown for reference; the fee page covers refunds and the official portal’s own fees.

Azerbaijan’s embassy in Berlin

None of this requires the embassy. The Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Berlin, Hubertusallee 43, 14193 Berlin (berlin.mfa.gov.az), and the honorary consulate in Stuttgart handle other visa types and consular matters. Contact details for both are listed under Germany on our Azerbaijan embassies page.

Applying

The application runs in one sitting: trip details first, then each traveller with a passport scan, then a review page and payment. Before anything goes to the official portal we check it, and we get in touch if a scan or a detail needs fixing. Once the Azerbaijani authorities have decided, you receive an email with a secure link; print the eVisa and travel with it and the same German passport. Start an application for the Azerbaijan eVisa for German citizens once your dates are fixed.
