Ireland and Azerbaijan’s entry rules

Ireland is not among the eight countries whose citizens can visit Azerbaijan without a visa, but Irish nationals are entitled to the electronic visa. The eligible countries list names every other nationality in the same position, and the Azerbaijan eVisa page explains how the system works.

Why the passport card will not do

According to the Department of Foreign Affairs, the Irish passport card is valid for travel to EU member states, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Azerbaijan lies outside that area, so the Azerbaijan eVisa for Irish citizens is requested with the passport book, and the same book is shown at the border. Its expiry date has to fall at least 180 days after the day you arrive in Azerbaijan.

O’Brien, Mac and the fada

Irish names often contain an apostrophe, as in O’Brien or O’Sullivan, a prefix such as Mac or Mc, or a fada, as in Seán or Siobhán. The name fields on our form accept every one of these characters, so type each surname and given name exactly as it appears in that traveller’s own passport instead of a simplified spelling. Before anything is submitted, our team compares every name with the scan of the photo page.

One application for the whole group

Up to ten people fit on one application. Each person is added with their own passport details and a scan of the photo page in JPG, PNG or PDF format, no larger than 8 MB, while the arrival date, the accommodation, the purpose of the trip, one email address and one phone number are entered just once. Irish mobile numbers begin with 08 at home; on the form, leave out the 0, write +353 and add the remaining digits. Partners and children who travel on British passports can join the same application, as our UK citizens’ guide explains.

Azerbaijan eVisa for Irish citizens: fees for a group of six

Prices are set per traveller: USD 59 for standard processing, ready within 3 working days, or USD 130 for urgent processing, ready within 3 hours. A group of six therefore pays USD 354 or USD 780 in total. The card payment itself is taken in Azerbaijani manat, AZN 100.30 or AZN 221.00 per person. Standard needs an arrival date at least 4 days after the application date, whereas urgent also works for a flight later the same day. The fee page sets out which part can be refunded.

Ninety days to use it, thirty days in the country

The eVisa stays valid for 90 days and permits a stay of up to 30 days. If you remain longer than 15 days, your address must be registered, as explained under migration rules; staying past the 30 days is covered on duration of stay.

Which embassy covers Ireland

Azerbaijan does not run an embassy of its own in Ireland. Its embassy in London is also accredited to Ireland, and an honorary consul has represented Azerbaijan in Dublin since March 2024, according to the embassy’s page on relations with Ireland. Neither is involved in the Azerbaijan eVisa for Irish citizens, which runs online from start to finish. The London embassy’s address, phone numbers and email addresses are listed on our Azerbaijan embassies page. Ireland, for its part, has no embassy in Baku: its embassy in Ankara is accredited to Azerbaijan, so that is the mission to contact if you need Irish consular help during the trip.

Approval and what to carry

After payment, our team reviews the application and asks you to correct anything that does not match a passport; only then does it go to the official portal, where Azerbaijan’s authorities take the decision. If the visas are granted, an email brings a secure link to each traveller’s eVisa. Print each eVisa and pack it alongside the passport it was issued for. A new link can be requested at any time on check your application status. Once your flights are booked, the application form takes you through the Azerbaijan eVisa for Irish citizens step by step, and the FAQ covers other questions.
