A Canadian passport qualifies for Azerbaijan’s electronic visa, so the trip can be arranged from anywhere in Canada without a consulate appointment. The Azerbaijan eVisa for Canadian citizens is requested on one online form for up to ten travellers, and once the authorities approve it, it arrives by email as a secure link.

Where Canada stands on Azerbaijan’s visa list
Azerbaijan lets citizens of eight countries in without any visa, and Canada is not one of them. Canadians can, however, get the visa electronically, and our eligible countries page shows every nationality with that option. A general overview of the electronic visa is on the Azerbaijan eVisa page.
Permanent residents and other passports in Canada
A permanent resident card, a work permit or a study permit plays no part in deciding which visa route applies. The application records each traveller’s nationality and passport, and the passport alone settles eligibility. A permanent resident holding an Indian, Pakistani or Iranian passport therefore applies on that passport, since those nationalities are on the eVisa list too; our guides for Indian and Pakistani passport holders cover their details. Chinese and Filipino passports are not on the form’s list, so a relative travelling on one of them cannot be added to your application, and the entry rules for that passport are worth checking separately.
Canadian and American family members together
Plenty of households in Canada mix Canadian and US passports. Both nationalities can use the eVisa, so the family can share one application of up to ten people, with each person’s nationality taken from their own passport. Someone who is a citizen of both countries picks the passport they will actually show at the border and enters that document’s number and expiry date. The application carries a single email address and a single phone number for everyone; a Canadian number starts with +1, exactly like an American one, followed by the area code and the seven remaining digits. Our guide for US citizens covers the American side.
Before you start the Azerbaijan eVisa for Canadian citizens
Each traveller needs a Canadian passport that will still be valid 180 days after the day they land in Azerbaijan, and a sharp scan of its photo page as a JPG, PNG or PDF file of no more than 8 MB. The form also asks for the arrival date, where you will stay, the purpose of the trip, every person’s occupation and home address, and the passport number and expiry date. Names are typed exactly as the passport prints them, and the name fields accept accents and hyphens, so a name such as Jean-Philippe Bélanger needs no simplifying. Visa requirements explains each item further.
How long a Canadian visitor may stay
An issued eVisa is valid for 90 days and allows up to 30 days in the country. Visitors staying beyond 15 days have to register their address, which our page on migration rules describes, and the ways to remain past 30 days are set out under duration of stay.
Turnaround and what a couple pays
Standard processing finishes within 3 working days and needs an arrival date at least 4 days after you apply; urgent processing finishes within 3 hours and can cover an arrival on the same day. One speed is chosen for the whole application. The Azerbaijan eVisa for Canadian citizens costs USD 59 per traveller on standard and USD 130 on urgent, so a couple travelling together pays USD 118 or USD 260. Your card is charged in Azerbaijani manat, AZN 100.30 or AZN 221.00 for each traveller, with the dollar figures given for reference, and the fee page explains which part is refundable.
Ottawa: the embassy and its aviation role
The Azerbaijan eVisa for Canadian citizens is handled entirely online and never involves the embassy. Azerbaijan’s embassy at 275 Slater Street in Ottawa also acts as the country’s permanent representation to the International Civil Aviation Organization, whose headquarters are in Montreal. For other kinds of visa and for consular questions, it publishes its information at ottawa.mfa.gov.az, and its phone numbers and email addresses are listed under Canada on our Azerbaijan embassies page.
What happens once you have paid
As soon as the payment is confirmed, our team goes through each traveller’s details and contacts you if anything needs fixing; the application is passed to the official portal only after that check, and Azerbaijan’s authorities make the decision. An approval comes as an email with a secure link to every traveller’s eVisa, and each one should be printed and carried with the matching passport. If you need the link again, enter your reference and email address on check your application status. When your dates are settled, apply for the Azerbaijan eVisa for Canadian citizens through the application form, and see the FAQ for anything else.
